Writer and online political activist Pinaki Bhattacharya has been sued under the Cyber Security Act for allegedly morphing images of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her brother Sheikh Kamal, as well as making fake, obscene videos about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Mancha’sSylhet unit vice president, Abdur Rahman, filed the case in Sylhet Cyber Tribunal judge Monir Kamal's court on Sunday.
Others accused in the case are Nazmul Islam, Shahriar Hossain Saqib, admin of the Facebook page “Fight for Democracy” Shakeel Ahmed, Md Hasan Mia, Abdul Hadi and Rezaul Karim.
According to the case documents, the accused are trying to cause damage by disparaging Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by spreading rumours and propaganda anonymously and under disguise. Apart from this, they have defamed the prime minister by distorting her pictures and making caricatures.
Plaintiff's lawyer Tipu Ranjan Das said: “After the complaint was filed in the Sylhet Cyber Tribunal, the court judge took it into cognizance and registered it as a case. The judge ordered the CID to investigate the case.”
