The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has ordered the lower court to finish the trial proceedings of the Rana Plaza building collapse murder case within six months.
Until this time, the bail of the owner of the building, Sohel Rana, will remain suspended.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed by Rana on Monday.
On July 10, 2023, the Appellate Division issued a standover order, suspending the bail granted to Sohel Rana, owner of the collapsed Rana Plaza building, for six months.
The High Court had granted bail to Sohel Rana on April 6.
On April 24, 2013, over 1,100 RMG workers were killed when the 10-storey Rana Plaza building adjacent to the Savar bus stand collapsed. Thousands of other workers were injured.
Five days after this incident, RAB arrested building owner Sohel Rana, as he attempted to flee to India.
Later, a case was filed against him along with the owners of various factories in that building.
