A Dhaka court has sentenced actress Zeba Chowdhury Jaya alias Farida Parveen, who addresses herself as a film actor, to three years in prison in a case filed over fraud.
Dhaka Judicial Magistrate Md Mujahidul Islam announced the verdict on Tuesday, also slapping Zeba with a fine of Tk5,000, Advocate Mahbub Hasan Rana, a member of the Dhaka Bar Association and the plaintiff, said on Wednesday.
The court also issued an arrest warrant as Zeba is absconding.
According to the complaint, Zeba Chowdhury sold a car to the plaintiff for Tk7 lakh. She received the money on March 20, 2022. However, the car was not handed over to him as the documents were not up to date.
Their agreement stated that the vehicle would be handed over within 15 days after clearing all the documents from the BRTA. But the defendant did not hand over the car after taking the plaintiff's money.
Later, on May 8, 2022, the plaintiff filed a case in court on charges of fraud.
After the filing of the case, the accused was arrested. But she went into hiding after getting out of jail on bail.
The court framed charges against Zeba on June 8.
