A Jamalpur court on Tuesday denied bail to six accused including expelled UP chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu, the main accused in the murder case of journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim in Jamalpur's Bokshiganj.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Tanveer Ahmed gave the order when six accused applied for bail in the Jamalpur Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Tuesday morning.
Five other accused are Moniruzzaman Monir, Rezaul Karim, Zakirul, Andonol Sarkar and Maqbul, said advocate Yusuf Ali, the plaintiff's lawyer.
The case is under investigation and three accused have given confessional statements under section 164. If the accused go on bail at this moment, the investigation may be hampered. The court rejected the bail application of all the accused, said the lawyer.
Nadim, who had been seriously injured in an attack allegedly by some supporters of Babu in the Pathati area of Bokshiganj upazila on June 14, died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital the next day.
He was the Jamalpur correspondent for Banglanews24.com and a Bokshiganj upazila correspondent for Ekattor Television. He was also a member of the Jamalpur Press Club.
A case was lodged against 47 people naming now-suspended Sadhurpara union parishad (UP) chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu as the key accused in connection with Nadim's murder.
So far, 16 people have been arrested in connection with the murder of journalist Nadim.
Earlier, Babu and his two accomplices Rezaul and Moniruzzaman Monir gave confessional statements in the court under Section 164 in this case.
