The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has set November 24 for announcing judgement against former BNP lawmaker Abdul Momin Talukder Khoka in the case filed for committing crimes against humanity in Bogra during the 1971 Liberation War.
ICT-1 Chairman Justice Md Shahinur Islam set the date in a short order on Monday, reports BSS.
On October 31, the tribunal kept the judgement on CAV, curia advisory vault (a Latin legal term, meaning court awaits judgement) as both the prosecution and defence concluded their arguments in the case on that day.
The ICT-1 held the trial in absentia as Abdul Momin, former MP from Bogra 3 constituency, is yet to be arrested.
Prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Simon said Momin was the commander of Razakar forces in Adamdighi upazila of Bogra. There were allegations of crimes against humanity like mass murders, murders and abductions against him.
Abdul Momin was elected lawmaker from Bogra 3 constituency two times. His father Abdul Majid Talukder, chairman of the local Peace Committee, was a lawmaker three times.
The accused used to help his father and the Pakistani military.
The war crimes case was filed against him in March 2011 by a freedom fighter of Kayetpara village with a local court. The case was forwarded to the International Crimes tribunal.
Tribunal investigation agency started a probe on him in January 2016. The prosecution prayed for his arrest, judging that the agency had gathered a substantial amount of evidence.
