A Feni court has sentenced a man to death who murdered his wife last year and streamed the incident live on the social media platform Facebook.
The death-row convict Obaidul Haque Tutul was present at the courtroom on Thursday when District and Sessions Judge Dr Begum Jebunnesa pronounced the verdict.
The court also fined him Tk50,000, reports a correspondent from Feni.
On April 15, 2020, after hacking his wife Tahmina Akhter to death at his home in the district town, Tutul called the police.
Police arrested Tutul from his home in the Uttar Barahipur neighbourhood of the town and seized the murder weapon, a machete, as well as the suspect’s mobile phone.
Later, Tahmina's father Sahab Uddin filed a case against Tutul with the Feni model police station.
On December 15, the court framed charges against the lone accused after police submitted a charge sheet on November 11.
The trial in the case began on January 13 this year. The court testified total of 13 witnesses.
