The High Court has granted anticipatory bail to BNP Central Executive Committee member Nipun Roy Chowdhury for three months in the case filed over Friday's clash between Awami League and BNP leaders.
Nipun Roy's lawyer, Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury, said that the High Court bench consisting Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed this order on Monday.
Barrister Debashish Roy Chowdhury and Barrister Mithun Roy Chowdhury were also present in the hearing in favour of Nipun Roy. Advocate Amit Talukder represented the state side in the case.
Nipun Roy came to the court in an ambulance from the hospital around 10:30am.
As part of BNP's ongoing movement, there was a clash between Awami League and BNP leaders at the Dhaka district BNP rally in Keraniganj last Friday.
BNP alleged that the clash started when Awami League leaders and activists first attacked BNP leaders and activists.
Witnesses said the altercation began when BNP leaders threw brickbats at the Awami League's South Keraniganj office during the protest rally.
Local Awami League activist Sumon Mia filed the case at the Keraniganj model police station accusing the BNP leaders of vandalizing the Awami League office and assaulting its party members.
In the aftermath of the clash, police arrested nine BNP party members on Friday night.
At least 15 people were injured in a clash between the ruling Awami League and BNP in Dhaka's Keraniganj upazila on Friday.
