Arav Khan gets 10 years in jail in arms case

The case was filed after he was arrested in front of his father-in-law's house with a loaded revolver on January 28, 2015

A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced Dubai's famous gold trader Arav Khan alias Robiul Islam Apon to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in an Arms Act case filed in 2015.

Dhaka's Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Murshid Ahmed handed down the verdict. 

Besides, He was also fined Tk10,000, in default, he has to serve three more months in jail.

The court delivered the verdict after hearing the prosecution and defence arguments. Testimony was recorded from 10 out of 20 witnesses in the case.

According to the case statement, on January 28, 2015, Arav Khan went to his father-in-law's house in Dhaka's Moghbazar to collect money by threatening his father-in-law Sekender Ali. 

He was arrested in front of his father-in-law's house with a loaded revolver.

Sujan Kumar Kundu, the then sub-inspector of Vehicle Theft Prevention and Rescue Team of DB West, filed the case under the Arms Act against Arav in the Ramna Model police station.

On March 1, 2015, DB Sub-Inspector Sheikh Hasan Muhammad Mustafa Sarwar, investigating officer of the case, filed the charge sheet in the court on March 1, 2015, as the allegations against the accused Rabiul Islam Apon were found to be true.

On May 10 of the same year, the court ordered the trial to begin by framing charges against Arav.

Arav got bail in the case on March 14, 2018. 

After that, the court issued an arrest warrant against him on October 24, 2018, as he was absconding.
