A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal General Secretary Sultana Ahmed on a two-day remand in connection with a case filed under the Digital Security Act, on charges of making derogatory remarks about the prime minister..

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahidul Islam passed the order after Paltan Police Station's Sub-Inspector Md Ashraful Alam, also investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking a seven-day remand for interrogation.

In his remand plea, Md Ashraful Alam said that a seven-day detention was required in order to uncover the real reason behind the incident.

Defense Attorney Masud Ahmed Talukder opposed the remand plea and filed a petition for the accused's release on bail; however, the court denied the motion after hearing it.

Earlier in the day, Sultana was arrested from her Gulshan residence by members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for making derogatory remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Abdul Hamid, former president of Gopalganj District Chhatra League, filed the case at Paltan police station in the capital on Sunday morning.
