A Jhalakathi court has ordered the transfer of a case filed over the fire incident on the Barguna-bound launch MV Abhijan-10 to the marine court.
Senior Judicial Magistrate KHM Imranur Rahman issued the order on Thursday and said the hearing on bail for the accused in the case would also take place in the marine court.
Earlier in the day, counsel for accused GK Mostafizur Rahman pleaded with the court seeking a stay on the case proceedings.
In the deadliest launch inferno in Bangladesh’s history, Abhijan-10 caught fire at around 3am on December 24 near Jhalakathi’s Gabkhan on the Sugandha River. The blaze engulfed the three-storey launch, killing at least 38 people, with 80 others hospitalized.
Most of the passengers were asleep when the fire erupted.
