The fares of launches have been increased by 7.54% following the hike in fuel oil prices, Road Transport and Bridges and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam said.
“Considering the passengers, I believe this rate of fare increase is reasonable. The minimum fare was Tk32 before, and it has now been increased to Tk35,” he said while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Inland Waterways (Passenger) Owners Association President Golam Nabi Alamgir said the fare for journeys of up to 100km has been increased by 23 poisha per kilometre to Tk3.18 per kilometre.
For journeys exceeding 100km, the fare has been increased by 20 paisa per kilometre to Tk2.72 per kilometre.
