To ensure smooth transportation of passengers and vehicles during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, 17 ferries and 20 launches will operate on the Daulatdia-Paturia waterway this year.
This information was shared during a preparatory meeting held in the conference room of the Rajbari deputy commissioner on Monday.
The meeting focused on ensuring the smooth operation of ferries, launches, and other vessels on the Daulatdia-Paturia route, as well as effective management of the terminal and hassle-free travel for passengers during Eid-ul-Fitr.
The meeting was presided over by Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Sultana Akter and attended by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime & Ops) Sharif Al Rajib.
During the meeting, BIWTA and BIWTC officials said that to ensure smooth passenger and vehicle transportation during Eid, the number of ferries has been increased to 17.
Among the three terminals (3, 4, and 7), eight pocket lanes will be used for vehicle transportation, and 20 launches will be in operation, they said, adding that almost all preparations have been completed.
Additionally, multiple layers of security measures will be implemented by the district police to keep the terminal area free from traffic congestion, brokers, pickpockets, and other criminal activities.
To prevent overcharging of fares, ensure the display of fare charts and ticket counter lists, and curb the movement of illegal vehicles, a mobile court team under the district administration will be deployed at the terminal area.
Furthermore, there will be arrangements for lighting, temporary toilets, a breastfeeding centre, and safe drinking water at the terminal.
Rajbari Additional Superintendent of Police Sharif Al Rajib said several layers of security will be in place to prevent passenger harassment, pickpocketing, criminal activities, and traffic congestion.
"Several known criminals from the terminal area have already been arrested. Moreover, illegal vehicle movement will be closely monitored, and the police will remain on constant patrol."
He emphasized that while the police have responsibilities, passengers and the general public should also remain cautious for a hassle-free Eid journey.
Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Sultana Akter expressed hope that, with everyone's cooperation, this Eid would be celebrated smoothly.
She mentioned that there is no longer excessive traffic congestion at the terminal, but considering the increased pressure of passengers and vehicles during Eid, all necessary preparations have been made.
To maintain law and order, control traffic congestion, and prevent criminal activities, executive magistrates will lead mobile courts alongside the police, she added.
