The prosecution placed their statement on the third day of the closing arguments in Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder trial in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.
District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Ismail heard the arguments from 10am to 5pm, in presence of the 15 accused including former OC of Teknaf police Pradeep Kumar Das.
On the same day, eight defence lawyers representing former inspector Liaqat and Pradeep presented their arguments in court.
Senior advocate Chandan Kumar Das started the argument on behalf of Liaqat. Later, Pradeep’s chief lawyer advocate Rana Dasgupta started placing arguments in the case.
Meanwhile, three more lawyers took part in the question and answer session in the court on behalf of accused Pradeep.
The court adjourned the proceedings leaving Rana Dasgupta's arguments incomplete.
Lawyer Rana told a press briefing in the afternoon that the case was not proceeding according to the law from the beginning.
He said: “The judicial magistrate does not have the power to direct the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to investigate the case as per the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code.”
Prosecutor Faridul Alam told the briefing that Maj (retd) Sinha, a former member of the Special Security Force (SSF), had been assassinated in a planned way.
“The prosecution has been able to prove it in court by producing 65 witnesses. On the other hand, the defendants' attorneys continued to protect their clients.”
Earlier in the morning, police brought the accused to the court premises under tight security.
