A Dhaka court has ordered police to finish investigation and submit a report in a case filed against Jahangirnagar University students accusing them of vandalising the vice-chancellor's residence and harassing teachers.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Shahinur Rahman issued the order on Tuesday in presence of all 54 accused students.
The Jahangirnagar authorities filed the case on May 27.

A day before that, two Jahangirnagar students were killed in a road accident. Their aggrieved classmates and fellow students blocked the Dhaka-Aricha Highway the next day demanding damages for the victims' families and safer roads.
Police fired rubber bullets, used tear gas and charged batons as they drove the demonstrating students off the road.

A number of students, university security officials and journalists were injured.
The agitated students later went to the VC's residence and vandalised it. Several teachers were allegedly assaulted by the students at that time.
Hours later, the VC in an emergency syndicate meeting decided to file case against at least 50 students and shut the university indefinitely.

The Ashulia police detained 42 students from in front of the VC's residence that night and later showed them as defendants in the case filed by Jahangirnagar authorities.
A day later, Ashulia police sought court's permission keep the 42 detainees behind bars until the investigation was finished but the court granted the accused bail.
