Two remanded in Chittagong for assaulting judge

The arrestee was identified as Ali Akbar and his friend Ali Hossain

A Chittagong court on Thursday granted police three days to interrogate two persons in custody in a case filed against them for allegedly assaulting a judge. 

Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.  

Earlier, the police produced the duo before the court and moved a four-day remand plea.

However, the court of Chittagong Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohiuddin Murad granted a three-day remand.

Jobayer Syed, Officer-in-Charge of Patenga police station said the driver of the judge Raju Sheikh lodged a case against the duo and they were shown arrested in the case.

The arrestee was identified as Ali Akbar and his friend Ali Hossain.

Previously on Wednesday, Ali Akbar and Ali Hossain were riding on a motorcycle on the wrong lane at Patenga Outer Ring Road area in the city.

When Chittagong’s Fifth Joint District Judge Zahir Uddin’s driver protested. Later, the two men allegedly assaulted the judge and his driver.

Of them, Ali Akbar and his father Haji Iqbal are also accused in a case filed for murdering Juba League activist Mohiuddin.
