The order comes in response to a writ petition in 2016, by 26 individuals who fought in the Liberation War, but were not included in the government list

The High Court has directed the authorities concerned to include those who trained in Bangladesh and fought for the country in the Liberation War as freedom fighters.

The bench of Justice Jubayer Rahman Chowdhury and Justice Qazi Zinat Haque delivered the verdict virtually on Monday, after completing the hearing on a writ filed by 26 individuals from Sakhipur, Tangail in 2016.

The petitioners filed the writ because their names were not included in a government gazette declaring the names of freedom fighters that year.

All 26 people were members of Kaderia Bahini, an independent militia created during the Liberation War of 1971.

Advocate Mohammad Ahasan, accompanied by Emadul Haque and Belayet Hossain, stood for the writ.

According to the lawyers, the court ordered to publish a gazette notification declaring the names of the 26 petitioners as freedom fighters within 90 days.
