A writ has been filed with the High Court seeking its directive to stop the move to relocate stray dogs by the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Actress Jaya Ahsan and two animal rights bodies — People for Animal Welfare (PAW) Foundation and Obhoyaronno filed the petition on Thursday, said Rakibul Haq Emil, the founding chairman of PAW Foundation.

Petitioner’s counsel Barrister Saqeb Mahbub said that the plea sought a rule from the High Court asking the government and the South city corporation why the initiative should not be declared illegal.
The High Court may hear the matter next week, he said.
According to the section 7 of the Animal Welfare Act 219, stray animals cannot be killed or relocated.

However, from last week of August Dhaka South City authorities began relocating 30,000 stray dogs from Dhaka.
The DSCC said that the decision to relocate stray dogs came following complaints of untoward incidents.
The move drew criticism and triggered protest from the animal rights activists in the capital.
