A Supreme Court layers has offered unconditional apology to the apex court for making derogatory comments on Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and the judiciary in a Facebook post.
Advocate Syed Mamun Mahbub appeared virtually before a full bench of the Appellate Division, headed by the chief justice, for the hearing on a contempt of court rule on Thursday.
The Appellate Division also fixed August 23 to deliver its judgment on the rule.
Earlier on August 12, the Supreme Court summoned Advocate Mahbub for posting derogatory comments on Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on social media Facebook.
The lawyer was asked to appear before the apex court on August 20, and a rule was issued asking him to explain, by August 19, on why he posted the derogatory comments and why court proceedings should not be brought against him for his actions.
When contacted by Dhaka Tribune, Advocate Mahbub said that he heard about the Supreme Court order on him and that he will reply to the rule after receiving the order of the apex court.
“I mistakenly said some words about the Chief Justice on Facebook on August 11. It was a grievous error on my part. I have already deleted the comments. I will appear before the Supreme Court on August 20 and express sincere and unconditional apologies for my actions.”
