The Supreme Court has cancelled all its annual holidays for the year 2020, starting from August 6.
The Supreme Court administration announced the decision through a circular, signed by Registrar General Ali Akbar, sent to the media on Wednesday.
The circular said following the decision of a full court meeting on August 6, where all the judges of both the High Court and the Appellate Division were in attendance, all the yearly holidays mentioned in the Supreme Court’s calendar have been cancelled – effective from that very day.
According to the calendar, there were scheduled holidays from August 31 to October 5, October 25 to October 27 and December 20 to December 31.
National holidays are not included in this circular.
When the government declared a general holiday following the first detection of Covid-19 in March, the Supreme Court also declared a general holiday for all the courts across the country, which was extended several times.
On May 10, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain issued a directive allowing court trial proceedings to be conducted virtually.
The subordinate courts resumed the regular proceedings with physical appearance and maintaining health guidelines on August 5.
After the full court meeting on August 6, it was circulated that from now on the virtual bench would also continue besides the regular bench.
The regular bench of the High Court also resumed its operation with physical appearance after four months, on August 12.
