Update : 29 May 2017, 04:38 PM
A Dhaka court has ordered investigators to submit their report on June 19 in a case filed over the rape of two university students at Banani's Raintree hotel. Metropolitan Magistrate Md Delwar Hossain gave the order on Monday in presence of five accused, the court's General Registration Officer Abdul Mannan told Bangla Tribune. Two students were raped at the Raintree hotel on March 28. They filed a case on May 6 with Banani police against Shafat Ahmed, Nayem Ashraf, Shadman Sakif, Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain and his bodyguard Rahmat Ali. Police recorded the case after a 48-hour delay. The plaintiffs said their rapists had threatened and pressured them to withdraw the case. Shafat, son of one of the owners of Apan Jewellers, and his friend Nayem raped the girls at gunpoint and recorded the incident on mobile phone. Shafat and Shadman were arrested in Sylhet on May 11. Shafat’s driver Billal and bodyguard Rahmat were arrested on 15 May while Nayem was apprehended on May 17. Nayem has reportedly told investigators that two other girls were raped at Raintree on March 28, a police source familiar with the matter said.
