A writ has been filed with the High Court to shutdown all kinds of educational institutions, airports, land and sea ports, in an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus outbreak in Bangladesh.
Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Eunus Ali Akond filed the writ on Sunday.
The lawyer said the writ may be placed before the vacation bench of Justice Mujibur Rahman Miah and Justice Mohiuddin Shamim on Monday.
Seven people including the secretaries to the Home, Health, Education, and Foreign Affairs ministry were made respondents.
Eunus Ali Akond said Covid-19 infected patients have been found in the country. A terrifying situation could arise if students are affected with coronavirus. As a preemptive step, I have filed the writ, he added.
A growing number of countries are closing their borders, and events across the globe are being canceled. An unprecedented number of children, youth, and adults are not attending schools or universities because of Covid-19.
Governments in 49 countries have announced or implemented the closure of educational institutions in an attempt to slow the spread of the disease.
According to UNESCO monitoring, 29 countries have closed schools nationwide, impacting almost 391.5 million children and youth.
Over 156,930 people have been infected and 5,839 deaths were reported, due to the coronavirus pandemic in the world, according to worldometers.info.
Meanwhile, a total of 75,935 people around the world have recovered from the Covid-19 illnesses. In Bangladesh, five people were infected with the virus and of them two recovered fully.
