One sentenced to life in prison for possessing 90gm heroine

A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced a drug dealer to life in prison after he was found guilty of possessing 90 grams of heroin.

Judge Dr Sheikh Golam Mahbub of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 delivered the verdict.

The convicted M Kamal alias Tablet Kamal is the son of Dadon Mia alias Madan Mia of Hajikandi village in Haimchar, Chandpur.

He was also fined Taka10,000, and will be sentenced to an additional three months in prison if he fails to pay the fine, confirmed Raju Ahmed, bench officer of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6.

Meanwhile, two other accused - M Sohel and M Shahin - were released as the allegations against them could not be proven.

According to the case statement, police raided a tin shed house in a slum under Bhashantek police station on November 19, 2016, following allegations that a number of people including named accused Kamal, Shohel, Shahin and Sajjad was selling drugs there.

Kamal was caught and police found a total of 90gram of heroine in his possession, but no others could be captured in the drive.

Later, 23 petrol bombs and 27 cocktails were also recovered, said the statement.

A case was filed against the accused Bhashantek police on November 20, 2016. A court framed charges against the accused in 2017.
