The High Court has asked Dhaka's Senior Metropolitan Special Judges Court to resume trial proceedings against former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar in a corruption case.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order on Thursday, rejecting a petition by Babar seeking the court's order to scrap the trial proceedings.
Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said that the order cleared all legal hurdles to resume the trial against Babar.
The bench also asked the Senior Metropolitan Special Judges Court to finish the trial within six months.
In January 2008, the ACC filed a case against Babar with Ramna police accusing him of amassing illegal wealth of Tk7.5 crore. The lower court accepted charge sheet against him in July the same year.
Babar filed a petition with the High Court seeking its order to scrap the trial proceedings. Later, the court stayed the proceedings and issued a rule.
The former state minister was sentenced to death, along with 13 others, in the sensational 10-truck arms haul case.
