A Chapainawabganj court has sentenced five people to death for the rape and murder of a woman named Ayesha Khatun in 2015.
Chapainawabganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 2 Judge and Additional District and Session’s Court Judge Shawkat Ali handed down the verdict on Thursday.
The convicts are Nayan Karmaker Rabidas, 32, Nitai Chandra Rabidas, 30, Subhash Das, 46, Proshanto Rabidas, 28, and another Proshanto Rabidas, 26.
Of them, 28-year-old Proshanto, Subhash and Nitai are absconding.
According to the case details, Chapainawabganj Sadar police station recovered 20-year-old Ayesha’s body from a ditch on June 14, 2015.
Later on August 9, 2015, police filed a case regarding the matter, accusing eight unknown people for raping and killing the woman.
Ayesha was a resident of Kalinagar Bablaban village under Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila.
