A Narayanganj tribunal on Tuesday sentenced five people to life imprisonment for gang raping two sisters at Mongolerga village in the district’s Sonargaon upazila in 2010.
Judge Md Shahin Uddin of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal also fined the convicts Tk1 lakh each.
The convicts are Shah Alam, Khokon, Emdad and Iqbal, and Zia, of the same village.
According to the prosecution, two sisters hailing from Lalmonirhat came to visit their paternal uncle's house at Mongolera on May 28, 2010. The culprits raped the two sisters there in turns.
Later, a case was filed at Sonargaon police station accusing six men over the incident.
