The High Court has directed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) authorities to form a medical board for the treatment of former caretaker government adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein.
The High Court bench comprising of Justice Syed Refat Ahmed and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir came up with the order after hearing on a petition on Thursday, reports UNB.
Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Advocate Masud Rana stood for Mainul while Deputy Attorney General Kazi Zinat Haque represented the state.
Mainul was arrested on October 22 in a case filed for defaming journalist Masuda Bhatti on a program.
Earlier Barrister Mainul was produced in court on October 23. Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaisarul Islam ordered law enforcement agencies to take him to Keraniganj Central Jail.
On November 3, Mainul was sent to Rangpur jail.
After that on November 10, a writ was filed challenging the government's inaction on the treatment of Mainul and in the incident of him getting assaulted in Rangpur court.
