The High Court set Sunday for the hearing of the writ petition that was filed asking for its directives on the dissolution of the 10th parliament – 42 days ahead of the upcoming 11th national election – and the formation of a caretaker government.

A High Court bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal set Sunday, October 6, as the date—following a hearing on the petition on Wednesday, reports UNB.

Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond filed the petition with the High Court bench. The petition seeks the High Court's directives regarding the dissolution of the 10th parliament, 42 days ahead of the national election, on October 1.

The petition also asked for the issuance of a rule that will ask respondents to take steps to dissolve the parliament and form a caretaker government.

It also sought an order staying the announcement of the election schedule, until the rule is disposed of.

The law secretary, legislative and parliamentary affairs secretary, secretary to the president, cabinet secretary, secretary to the prime minister's office, Jatiya Sangsad secretary and chief election commissioner, have all been made respondents to the writ.
