The High Court has set Tuesday to hear a writ petition filed seeking its directive on the authorities concerned to provide better treatment for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail.
A bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order on Monday, reports UNB.
The writ petition, filed on September 9, states that Khaleda has been suffering from chronic diseases and needs to be taken to a specialized hospital for better treatment.
Six people, including home secretary, inspector general of prisons, Dhaka civil surgeon, deputy commissioner, were made respondents.
On September 16, a medical board said they found no symptom of any serious disease in Khaleda Zia.
The board, formed by the government, suggested admitting the former prime minister to a hospital like Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) where treatment is available for all health problems.
On February 8, a special court sentenced the BNP chief to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Since then she has been imprisoned at Old Dhaka Central Jail.
