A Chandpur court has sentenced a man to 14 years imprisonmentin absentiafor torturing his wife in the district’s Faridganj upazila in 2009.
Judge Md Abdul Mannan of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict on Monday, reportsUNB.
The court alsofined the convict, 35-year-old Awlad Hossain,Tk25,000. He has been on the run since 2009.
According to the case details, since the couple got married,Awlad had been torturing his wife Selina Begum, 30, for dowry.
On May 28, 2009, he poured hot water ona sleeping Selina and left her severely injured.
Later, Selina’ssisterSwapna Begum filed the case with theFaridganj police station against Awlad.
