The owner of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan will pay Tk5 lakh each to the families of Abdul Karim Rajib and Diya Khanam Mim, who were crushed to death by a bus of that company in Dhaka on July 29, in line with a High Court order.
Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) informed the court about this through a report submitted on Sunday, reports BSS.
“BRTA said the transport company will pay Tk5 lakh each to the families as compensation. They had pleaded for time in this regard, but the court scrapped it,” Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol, who had filed the petition, told reporters.

He said the court also fixed October 7 to hold the hearing on a BRTA report on the criteria of getting driving licences and its steps to ensure people’s safety on roads.
The High Court on July 31 had ordered the Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan owner to pay Tk5 lakh each to the families of the deceased after hearing Ruhul’s petition.
The court also had ordered the bus owner to pay the medical bills of all those injured in the July 29 incident.
Besides, it formed a committee, headed by the chief of Buet’s Accident Research Institute, to assess the accident and find the people responsible, and asked it to submit its findings within two months.
Diya and Rajib, both students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment School and College, were killed when a speeding Jabal-e-Noor bus ploughed into a crowd of students of that institution, waiting for transportation, on the side of the city’s Airport Road.
The incident, which left several other students injured too, had sparked a nationwide student movement demanding safer roads and strict implementation of the traffic laws.
