A Dhaka court has deferred the date for a hearing to frame charges against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and others in cases filed over sabotage.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court fixed May 15 as the new date on Tuesday, accepting a petition by the defence counsel seeking time.
Khaleda’s lawyer Sanaullah Miah said they had appealed for time as proceedings of these cases were halted by the High Court. “The court has accepted our plea and fixed May 15 for the hearing,” he said.
Police filed these cases in 2015 over subversive activities and on charges of obstruction of duties at Dhaka’s Darussalam during the BNP’s strike.
Police filed charge sheets in the cases in 2016. They sought an arrest warrant for Khaleda in all the cases showing her absconding. Later Khaleda surrendered before the court and secured bail.
The former prime minister has been in jail since February after a Dhaka court found her guilty of corruption in the Zia Orphanage Trust case. This article was first published on banglatribune.com
