The apex court has granted bail to sacked Sylhet mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and suspended Habiganj municipality mayor Golam Kibria Gaus in two cases.
Chief Justice SK Sinha-led four member Appellate Division bench on Tuesday scrapped two government petitions seeking stay on the High Court's orders granting the two accused bail.
Ariful was accused in a case over a bomb attack on an Awami League rally in Sunamganj in 2004, killing one man and injuring many more.
Gaus, on the other hand, was a suspect in the January 2005 killing of former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria.
The High Court accepted their bail pleas on December 11 last year in the cases filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
Ariful and Gaus' lawyers said there were no bars to their clients' release as they had already secured bail in other cases.
