The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has imposed a travel ban on five former members of parliament (MPs) and their family members.
The decision was made on the first day of the new commission’s assumption of office, ACC Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Dr Aktarul Islam said on Thursday.
The five former MPs affected by the ban include Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury Nasim (Feni-1 Constituency), Nurunnabi Chowdhury (Bhola-3 Constituency), Abu Zahir (Habiganj-3 Constituency), HM Ibrahim (Noakhali-1 Constituency), and Noor Uddin Chowdhury Noyon (Lakshmipur-2 Constituency).
In addition to the MPs, the ban extends to their spouses, sons, and daughters.
The ACC has also decided to restrict foreign travel for several other individuals, including former railway minister Mujibul Haque, former minister of state for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam, along with his wife and children, former MP Bahauddin Bahar, his daughter Tasnim Bahar, and former mayor of Comilla, former minister Amir Hossain Amu, his adopted daughter Sumaiya, personal assistant Farrukh Majid Mahmud Kiran, and his wife Rafeza Majid, Hotel Regency Managing Director Kabir Reza and his wife Rokeya Khatun.
The ACC has decided to request an extension of existing travel bans on several others under investigation. These include Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahi, former chairman of the Samabaya Bank, Shariful Islam Jinnah, former MP of Bogra-2, along with his wife Mohmina Akhtar, and Liaquat Ali Lucky, former director general of the Shilpakala Academy.
The travel bans aim to ensure these individuals remain within the country while investigations and legal proceedings continue. Cases have already been filed against many of them.
