The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a charge sheet against former additional inspector general of police Dr Shamsuddoha Khandaker and his wife Ferdausi Sultana for acquiring illegal wealth.

ACC Assistant Director Khorshed Ali, the investigating officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet on Tuesday.

The charge sheet will be presented in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad As-shams Jaglul Hossain on Wednesday, according to Akkas Ali of the General Registration Branch of the ACC.

According to ACC sources, the couple has recently acquired substantial wealth beyond their known income. They possess 1,027 decimals of land in various parts of the country, including Dhaka. The documented price of these lands is Tk70 crore, but the actual market value exceeds Tk500 crore.

Additionally, Shamsuddoha has occupied a government duplex house built on 1 bigha of land in the capital’s Gulshan area for eight years, valued at around Tk200 crore. During this period, he did not pay any rent to the government and even applied to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works for allotment of the house.

In 2019, the ACC filed a case against the couple for acquiring wealth beyond their known sources of income.
