The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday filed a case against six people, including the chief engineer (production) of Shikalbaha Power Plant, for embezzling over Tk2.60 crore.

ACC Assistant Director Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury filed the case with its Chittagong integrated district office, according to the anti-graft watchdog's Director Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.

The accused are Power Tech International owner Abdul Alim, Shikalbaha 150 MW and Piking Power Station Additional Chief Engineer (Acting) Bhuban Vijay Dutt, Chief Engineer (Production) of Northern Electricity Supply Company Limited Rajshahi AHM Kamal.

Additional Chief Engineer of Design and Inspection Directorate-1 Tofazzel Hossain, Additional Chief Engineer (Acting) of PDB Abu Yusuf and Chattogram Power Station Deputy Manager (Executive Engineer) Mizanur Rahman were also named as accused.

In 2016, the accused bought an electric pump for Chittagong’s Shikalbaha Power Station against a letter of credit (LC) worth $265,000 or TK2.95 crore.

However, the ACC investigation found that the actual market value of the pump was $30,081 or TK2.49 lakh.

The accused misappropriated government funds in the name of buying an electric pump, the anti-graft watchdog said.
