Protesting teachers and students at Jahangirnagar University (JU) have released a list of corrupt practices perpetrated by Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Farzana Islam.

The 224 page list was released as a booklet during a press conference at the teacher's lounge of the Faculty of Arts of JU, on Tuesday.

Several corruption allegations were made against the VC in the booklet which include: giving Tk2 crore to Chhatra League from the money allotted for a development project, inviting a manual tender instead of an eTender, robbing the tender schedule of a company in order to give the tenders to certain other companies, not investigating the matter even after complaints, assigning her personal secretary to the committee which oversaw the development project and much more.

One of the organizers of the protest, Prof Rayhan Rhyne, said the list was still incomplete, as it did not include the irregularities perpetrated in appointing teachers and other employees.

"The corruption charge of a residential hall foundation released to the media will also be included in the next edition of the booklet," he added.

Prof Jamal Uddin Runu said the VC has disgraced the master plan and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

"Information regarding the VC's corruption was published in several newspapers but no legal action was taken by either the government or the VC herself to prove her innocence. It is evident that the VC is corrupt," he said.

The government allotted Tk1445.36 crore for the JU development project in 2018.

Numerous students and teachers started protesting, demanding the removal of the VC after she allegedly gave Tk2 crore from that allotted money to Chhatra League.
