Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) has shot a cattle trader dead on the Khalisha Kotal border of Fulbari upazila in Kurigram early Friday.
The deceased is Shyamol Chandra, 35, son of Jagadish Chandra, of Naodanga union of the same upazila.
According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local sources, BSF members of Boskotal camp in India opened fire on Shyamol when he was allegedly smuggling cows near pillar 934 around 5am.
Shyamol died on the spot and his body lay on Bangladesh side of the zero line. BGB later recovered his body and handed it to Fulbari police station at 10:30am.
Subedar Abdul Motir, Shimulbari company commander of 45 BGB battalion stationed in Kurigram, confirmed the facts.
He said: “The body of the deceased has been handed over to Fulbari police after recovering it from the Khalisha Kotal border. A formal protest has been sent to the BSF over the incident.”
Fulbari police station OC Bajlur Rashid also confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune and added that the body has been sent to Kurigram Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
