Update : 18 Feb 2015, 05:20 AM

A petrol bomb victim succumbed to his injuries at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) yesterday evening, after being critically burnt in an arson attack at Potiya upazila in Chittagong on the night of February 11.

Edris, 20, of Cox’s Bazar district, his two friends Abdur Rahim, 17, and Sajjad, 18, and Titu Achahrjee, 35, were entering the city from Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driven by Amjad Hossain, 30, that night, when pickets hurled bombs at the vehicle, leaving all with burn injuries, police said.

CMCH Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit Head Dr Mrinal Kanti Chowdhury told Dhaka Tribune that Edris succumbed to his injuries at around 5:45pm, as his condition had deteriorated.

“He had 30% burn injuries to his body, with his face, chest, and hands being seriously blistered, resulting in his lung system also being blistered,” he said, adding that though doctors had provided Edris with Intensive Care Unit facilities, he had died.

Titu Achahrjee, an electrician at BSRM factory, was also in critical condition, while Abdur Rahim, Sajjad, and Amjad had also been admitted to CMCH, police said.

Karnaphuli Police Station Sub-Inspector Ismail Hossain lodged a case with the police station against 13 known Jamaat-Shibir leaders and several unidentifiable others, but none have been arrested thus far in this connection, said Karnaphuli Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mohiuddin.
