Japan’s NHK World Television is to screen “Shunte Ki Pao!” (Are You Listening!) on February 21.
Written and directed by Kamar Ahmad Simon and Produced by Sara Afreen, the film won the Grand Prix in the Festival Cinema du Reel in Paris and the Golden Conch at the Mumbai International Film Festival as the best feature film.
The first airing will be at 1am on February 21, followed by a pre-recorded interview of Kamar and will be repeated every 6 hours, for a total of four broadcasts.
NHK World is the leading international broadcasting service from Japan Broadcasting Corporation, and is similar in stature to BBC World and Deutsche Welle.
“Shunte Ki Pao!”’ premiered on the opening day of Dok-Leipzig in Germany, one of the oldest documentary festivals in the world.
It was in the official selection of the world’s largest documentary festival, Holland’s IDFA.
The film has so far been invited to 30 international festivals and has won 10 competitive awards including Best Feature and Best Cinematography.
Last year the film was acclaimed after its release in theatres in Dhaka.
Earlier, the National Library of France bought the rental rights to the film for 10 years and Finland’s national broadcasting corporation YLE bought the online rights to the film.
