Law enforcers asked to update list of attackers

The government has directed the law enforcement agencies to update the list of people involved in bombing and other forms of violence and carry out drives against them as part of the government’s zero tolerance for terrorists.

A meeting of the state minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal with the high officials of the ministry and law enforcement agencies yesterday also decided to free the major highways, including the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, from terrorist attacks and ensure safety of vehicles.

The meeting discussed the recent rise in violence in the capital and came up with the decision to update the list of criminals immediately.

It also decided to find out the sources of funding behind these terrorists.

State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal presided over the meeting; Home Ministry Secretary Mojammel Haque Khan, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque, BGB DG Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed, Additional Secretary Kamal Uddin Ahmed, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mian were present at the meeting.

The government decided to mobilise the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at any cost and asked the Highway Police, Border Guard Bangladesh and Rapid Action Battalion to work together to ensure safety of vehicles.

On Sunday, the government decided to re-open the Sona Mosque land port. The meeting yesterday discussed arranging security for vehicles on the road to the port for smooth trade between Bangladesh and India.

Sources from the meeting said the officials favoured hard stance against violence through joint forces drives across the country.
