Chief of Rapid Action Battalion Benazir Ahmed has stressed that unity is needed amongst administration, people and law enforcement agencies to save the country from the ring involved in “anti-state” activities and killings.
At a press conference yesterday in Chittagong, the RAB director general said the country was passing through bad times.
“A quarter has been carrying out sabotages on common people’s lives and their properties; innocent people are burnt to death in a tragic way without any reason while the state’s assets destructed. People want to get rid of these...”
He claimed that the “evil force” was engaged in an unannounced war against the people. “We are working to stop this evil force forever. We have to stay united.”
The press conference was organised at the RAB 7 headquarters in Patenga area around 3:30pm.
Asked about the 20-party alliance’s statement terming his recent speech in Rangpur “political,” Benazir said: “We said nothing against political figures or political parties. We spoke against murder, terrorism and sabotage.
“How do murder, terrorism and sabotage become politics? It is our professional duty to protect the people from sabotage and stop terrorism.”
The RAB chief also said they were working to ensuring smooth and safe network between the Chittagong Port and the capital. “We are providing escorts to hundreds of vehicles and goods-laden vehicles. This will continue,” he said.
During the briefing, RAB Additional DG (operation) Col Ziaul Ahsan, CMP Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mandal and RAB 7 Commanding Officer Lt Col Mifta Uddin were present.
The RAB DG visited the RAB 7 headquarters under a special programme when he met with officials of all the law enforcement agencies and administration in the port city to discuss law and order.
