“I don’t know what I will do. Doctors even did not say anything. Please ask them and let me know. My children are crying at home,” wailing Sharifa Akther, pleaded.

Sharifa, wife of an auto-rickshaw driver who sustained burn injury during the on-going opposition-sponsored blockade, wanted to know when her husband’s ordeal would come to an end as she had to go back home.

Siddiqur, 45, husband of Sharifa, is now undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with 17% burn injury.

As his respiratory system was affected he was shifted to ICU two days back at DMCH last Tuesday.

“I rushed to Dhaka as my husband suffered burn injury,” she said.

On January 5, around 5pm, Siddiqur came under attack, while he was going back home with his auto-rickshaw under Kotowali police station of Mymensing.

Dr Partha Shankar Pal, residential surgeon of the DMCH Burn Unit, said he could not say something for sure as anything could happen.

Meantime, private car driver Abul Kalam, 28, who received 33% burn injury from a petrol bomb attack on Friday night, was shifted to the ICU from High Deficiency Unit as his condition deteriorated.

His mother Safia Begum, was sitting beside his bed. “Please pray for my son,” she murmured.

Dr Partha Shankar Pal, said Kalam was shifted to ICU as his respiratory system too was affected from the burn attack. “We are trying our best and hopeful that he would recover soon.”

Kalam was sleeping inside a private car after parking it in front of Agora Shopping Centre at Moghbazar area on Friday night.

Around 11.30pm, unidentified miscreants threw petrol bombs into the car and a fire broke out in no time leaving Kalam badly injured.
