A war crimes tribunal is reading out the verdict in the war crimes case against expelled Awami League leader Mobarak Hossain for his alleged crimes committed against humanity in 1971 Liberation War.
International Crimes Tribunal 1 Chairman Justice M Enayetur Rahim started reading the verdict around 11:25am on Monday.
Mobarak, 64, is facing charges on five counts that include murder, abduction, torture and crimes against humanity.
He was sent to Dhaka Central Jail from Kashimpur Jail 1 around 4pm on Sunday, Jailer Amzad Hossain said.
Member of Jamaat-e-Islami in 1971, Mobarak was a razakar commander in Brahmanbaria. After the independence he joined the Awami League and served as the organising secretary of Mugra union unit in Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria for 16 years until 2012. Later he was expelled from the Awami League.
