The government has ordered to launch 'Anti food adulterating drive’ countrywide.
Ministry of Home Affairs issued a circular in this regard on Tuesday.
According to the order, now district magistrates along with executive magistrates will conduct special drives across the country on secret information on food adulteration.
The circular came following a meeting on law and order situation held at the home ministry on July 21, 2014.
As per the circular, the anti food adulteration special drive will be conducted by district magistrates by getting information from mobile court magistrates who are involved in the drives against adulteration of food under the existing Mobile Court Act, Pure Food Ordinance, Consumer Protect Act and the Food Act.
The drives will be conducted based on secret information by executive magistrates working in the DC and UNO offices, it said.
They will give serious punishments to unscrupulous businessmen engaged in adulterating foodstuff.
The deputy commissioners (DCs) and Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) will immediately form district and upazila-level monitoring committees to conduct the special drives properly.
The ministry circular ordered a working guideline in this regard in both district and upazila level as the special drive will be supervised by a 29-member committee with local lawmakers as advisor and district magistrate as president.
In Upazila level, a 19-member committee, headed by Upazila Parishad chairman and local MP as advisor, will supervise the drive.
The responsible committee will hold monthly review meetings on the special drives.
The home ministry also ordered the field-level officers to form each monitoring committee.
The members should come from law enforcement and intelligence agencies, local business associations, civil society and the press, it suggested.
