The overall flood situations in Jamalpur and Kurigram worsened because of the continuous heavy rainfall in last few days.
Our Jamalpur correspondent reports that the flood situation in the district was very critical, as water was flowing at 27cm above the danger level at Bahadurabad point in the Jomuna River.
The rise in water level left at least 15 villages submerged and eight educational institutions closed. Till now, a total of 117 educational institutions were closed because of the flood.
Sources said only 24 tonnes rice and Tk5 lakh were allocated for over 2 hundred thousand flood affected people.
Pathorshi Union Parishad Chairman Hasmot Ali said they were not being able to help the flood victims due to the lack of aid and relief.
Meanwhile, Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner Md Shahabuddin said new aid and relief would be provided within two days.
On the other hand, our Kurigram correspondent reports that water levels of the Brahmaputra River, Dhorola River, Teesta River and other rivers in the district had increased because of the heavy rainfall, leaving thousands of people marooned in flood water for the last 13 days.
Sources at the local Water Development Board said water level of the Brahmaputra River was increased by 1cm at Chilmari point and 5cm at Nun Khaoa point. On the other hand, Kaunia point saw an increase of 9cm in the water level of the Teesta River and the Dhorola River saw a rise of 5cm in the water level at Setu point.
The trapped people in remote areas had been starving as aid and relief have not reached the areas, while they were also suffering from different water borne diseases because of the flood.
Kurigram Deputy Commissioner ABM Azad said though 500 tonnes rice and Tk11 lakh were allocated for the flood affected people, the authorities could distribute only 300 tonnes rice and Tk4 lakh among the villagers.
