Junior minister of Textiles and jute ministry, Mirza Azam MP has alleged that the former government led by Khaleda Zia is responsible for the sorry state of the jute industry in the country.
He said this at an inaugurating programme of BJMC Melandoho Jute purchasing centre at Melandoho in Jamalpur on Saturday.
He said: “Adamjee along with many other jute mills closed down and thousands of workers lost their earnings during the regime of the BNP led four party alliance government.”
“The Awami League government had taken the initiative to survive the industry from destruction and opened Adamjee jute mill along with many other mills, creating employment opportunities for thousands,” he added.
He also said: “the government is working hard to revive the industry and also made it compulsory to use jute made bags for wrapping crops.”
Melandoho UNO Rezaul Karim presided over the programme.
Jamalpur District Commissioner MD Shahabuddin khan, Acting president of Jamalpur District Awami League Baki Billah, vice president Atikur Rahman and general secretary Faruk Ahmed Chowdhury were among others present in the programme.
