The government has decided to appoint new ambassadors to the United Kingdom, Brazil and Geneva missions.
Mohamed Mijarul Quayes, the incumbent Bangladesh High Commissioner to England, has been appointed as the new Bangladesh ambassador to Brazil.
A career diplomat, Quayes is a member of the 1982 batch of BCS (foreign affairs) cadres.
In his distinguished diplomatic career, Quayes has pursued ambassadorship in the Maldives and Russia. He also served in Bangladesh missions in Tokyo, Singapore and Geneva for various terms.
Quayes also served as a foreign secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2012.
He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Dhaka University and a Master’s degree in public administration from Harvard Kennedy School of Government in the US where he was an Edward S Mason fellow in public policy and management.
Meanwhile, M Shameem Ahsan, the present Bangladesh Ambassador to Brazil, has been decided to be appointed as the new Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN offices in Geneva and Vienna.
Ahsan belongs to the 1984 batch of BCS (foreign affairs) cadres.
Ahsan served as Bangladesh Ambassador in Iran and Brunei. He also worked in the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, Bangladesh Permanent Mission to UN in Geneva and New York in various capacities.
Ahsan obtained an MBBS degree from Rajshahi Medical College.
He completed French language course from Centre Audio Visuel de Langues Modernes (CAVILAM), Vichy and diplomatic training from the Institut International d’Administration Publique in France.
He obtained both the “Diplome de l’Institut” and the “Diplôme d’etudes Supérieures Specialisés (DESS)” in diplomacy and administration of international organisations from the Jean Monnet-Sceaux Law Faculty at the University of Paris XI in 1988.
The government has also decided to appoint Md Abdul Hannan, the present Bangladesh Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Representative to the UN Offices in Geneva and Vienna, as the new High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the UK.
A member of the 1984 batch of BCS (foreign affairs) cadres, Hannan has pursued ambassadorship in Oman. He also served in Bangladesh missions in Karachi, Ottawa, Kolkata and Moscow.
