Diplomatic efforts have been intensified for an immediate truce in Gaza violence that claimed more than 560 Palestinian lives, BBC reports.
US Secretary of State John Kerry pledged $47 million in humanitarian aid for the battered Gaza Strip.
Kerry started his mission in Cairo on Monday where he met visiting UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Kerry said the US was concerned about Palestinian casualties, but lent his support to Israel's military operation.
"We are deeply concerned about the consequences of Israel's appropriate and legitimate effort to defend itself," said the US top diplomat.
Early on Tuesday, Israel announced that two more members of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) had been killed, taking the number of soldiers killed in fighting to 27. Two civilians have also died.
Monday's attacks across Gaza killed at least 56 people including 16 children, Gazan health officials said, with the Palestinian death toll now at more than 560.
