Nur Hossain on 14-day remand by Kolkata court

Update : 21 Jul 2014, 07:50 PM

The prime accused in Narayanganj seven murder case, Nur Hossain, was placed on 14-day police custody by an Indian court yesterday.

The District Judge’s Court of North 24 Parganas of West Bengal gave the order. The court also ordered him to appear before it on August 2 again. Nur did not plead for his bail.

Nur told reporters at the court that he had fled Bangladesh fearing his life. He claimed that he had been framed in the murder case. “You will be sure about it if you check my wealth and bank accounts,” he said.

Nur said he would appeal for bail once his relatives went to India and contact with his lawyers.

His associate Khan Sumon, who was arrested along with Nur, yesterday applied for bail but the court rejected the petition.

Nur, a councillor of Narayanganj City Corporation, had been absconding following the murder of panel mayor Nazrul Islam and six others in April.

He and two of his associates were arrested from an apartment in East Kolkata’s Koikhali area on June 14. The three were produced before the court the next day and were remanded in police custody for eight days.

They have been sued under the Arms Act and the Foreigners Act for illegal trespass into Indian territory without valid travel documents and for illegal possession of a firearm.
