Underground band Echoes will launch their debut album “Shohoj Golpo” today at the Incursion Headquarters.
The band created a buzz after releasing their single track “Moho” in a mixed album “Aguntuk-3” in 2004. The band currently consists of Hamza Ahmed (guitar), Tugril (guitar), Arsalan Mehboob (drums), Mofizul Haque Chowdhury (vocals) and Saadi Khan (bass).
Dhaka Tribune caught up with Hamza Ahmed to learn more about Echoes.
Tell us about the debut album?
There are seven different types of tracks in the album. The title song narrates some nostalgic moments of a grown-up. We beleive that the lyrics of the songs are simple and catchy. Also there is a song “Ar Koto” which talks about the socio-political condition of our country.
Who writes the songs for you and what are they about?
Our lyricist is Rumman. Tofael and Saadi often contributes too. We also welcome guest lyricists. However, we never go for romantic songs. The lyrics talk about daily life and memories. We believe everybody has a dark past and narrate such feelings with our songs.
What does “Echoes” mean?
We take our inspiration from our favourite band Pink Floyd's song “Echoes.”
Who else influences your music?
Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd. Overall, the members are very much influenced by 70’s and 80’s tracks.
How much do you enjoy performing in live concerts?
It is fun to perform and the crowd is always made up of true music lovers. We are very selective about our songs while performing live. In an open air concert, there is a mixed crowd, so we play according to the their choice.
